The Adventure Begins…

Today was the first day of my travel adventure, not because I begin to physically travel, but all of my paperwork arrived.  I now have my cabin number, hotel reservations in Hong Kong for one night, and our first change to the itinerary.  If you have been watching the world news, you may be aware that there is a bit of a political protest in Bangkok right now.  Due to this, the cruise line has informed us that we will not be going there.  I will admit that I am a bit disappointed by this, as I was looking forward to seeing some of the places that my Dad had seen when he was on R&R while serving in Vietnam.  So, no reclining Buddha, no snapping turtles eating popcorn in a moat, no Royal Palace.

Instead, we will be visiting an island called Ko Samui in the southern part of Thailand.  I have read that there is a 38ft tall Golden Buddha on the north side of the Island, and there are spectacular beaches and resorts.  I’m more excited about the description that I read of the food:

“In general, Southern Thai food is renowned for its spiciness. Much of the cuisine is derived from Malay, Indonesian and Indian cuisines. Favorite dishes from the south include Indian-style Muslim curry (massaman), rice noodles in fish curry sauce (Khanom chin), and chicken biryani.

Local food products of Ko Samui and Surat Thani province include salted eggs and rambutan.”

It should be some fun adventure!  I will admit that I am a bit nervous, since I have not traveled in some time; but, I know that it will be fun, adventurous, and a great time with a great friend.

Tomorrow morning, my neighbour begins to take care of my boys and watch after things.  I know he will enjoy playing with my guys and keeping them active and give them the attention that I know they will desire.  More to come as begin the traveling  part of the trip soon.
